Peter Santini immigrated from Italy in 1960 with his sister and parents. As a child, he experienced a fascination with color, texture and the merging of patterns of mosaics found in many churches and Roman ruins in Italy. Peter's first completed mosaic, was a three-dimensional, 4 feet by 5 feet art class project, representing the school mascot, a cougar, from North Providence High School in Rhode Island. After high school, attending Rhode Island Community College, he made his second three-dimensional mosaic representing the college mascot “A Knight on a Horse”, 5 feet by 6 feet (page 27). (The land for thecampus was donated by the Knight family, thus called the Knight Campus.) This mosaic was the first graduation class gift to RICC in 1966. After graduating from Rhode Island Community College, he continued his education at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated with a Spanish major and a Speech-Theater minor. While at Suffolk University in his senior year, he was commissioned to create his third three-dimensional mosaic, 5 feet by 6 feet ram, the university mascot. As a Spanish teacher, along with family obligations, Peter did not create any more mosaics until the early 1990s. In this booklet, you will find his work from that time to the present.
